EdUHK Promotes AI Education and Cultural Heritage to over 2000 Local Students

On 24 June, 2025, Professor Kong Siu-cheung, Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Digital Competency Education Centre (AIDCEC) under the Academy for Applied Policy Studies and Education Futures (AAPSEF) at the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), was invited to attend the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the New Territories School Heads Association at Hong Kong Baptist University Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School. Professor Kong delivered a lesson themed "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Literacy" to 2,180 students from 39 primary and secondary schools across Hong Kong. Through his accessible and in-depth explanations, he helped students comprehensively understand the basic concepts of AI and how to use AI technology in a regulated and reasonable manner. The students actively participated in AI-driven creative writing and illustration activities, where they skillfully integrated cultural elements into their creations and showcased the possibilities of cultural innovation supported by technology. This grand-scale event was not only lively and engaging, but also successfully set a new world record, a significant milestone in the development of AI education and cultural heritage.

 

The event was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Mr Cheuk Wing-hing, GBS, JP, Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration; Mr Li Gongxun, Deputy Director General of the New Territories Sub-office of the LOCPG in the HKSAR; Ms. Tse Yuen-ching, Principal Assistant Secretary (Curriculum Support) of the Education Bureau; Ms Lillian Kwok Ling-lai, Legislative Council Member; and Professor John Lee Chi-kin, President of EdUHK and Director of the AAPSEF,. Professor Lee highly praised the event in his speech. He stated that the integration of AI education and cultural heritage does not only inspire students' innovative thinking, but it also enhances their understanding of future technology trends and the importance of national security. He emphasised that EdUHK places great importance on fostering cross-sector collaboration to promote the popularization and deepening of AI education, continually improving the overall competitiveness of Hong Kong students, with an aim to cultivate more outstanding talents with international perspectives and technological literacy for the future development of society.

 

EdUHK will continue to actively promote the innovative integration of AI education and cultural heritage, working hand in hand with various sectors of society to jointly create a brighter future for the development of education in Hong Kong.
