President of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) Professor John Lee Chi-Kin led a delegation to Tsinghua University today (12 March), which was warmly welcomed by its Vice President, Professor Yang Bin.
The representatives of the two universities discussed the prospects and possibilities of future cooperation and exchange in multiple fields and disciplines. An MoU was then signed by the representative of EdUHK’s Academy for Applied Policy Studies and Education Futures (AAPSEF) and Academy for Educational Development and Innovation (AEDI) together with the Tsinghua University Institute of Education.
With the new partnership, the pair will encourage exchanges and collaboration between scholars and researchers from both universities, facilitate cooperative research activities, and organise joint academic conferences, forums and seminars. Additionally, there will be summer programmes and other activities of short duration for students to collaborate, and the two universities will share academic publications.
At the signing ceremony, Professor Lee explained that the AAPSEF and AEDI were established last year, and that they were made up of various centres and institutes from different fields, enabling interdisciplinary and innovative educational development and research. He also expressed his delight at visiting the Tsinghua University campus once more, and believed that this collaboration represented a crucial milestone in promoting educational development in both regions. “We hope that we will work together in a strong and cooperative manner and are confident that this partnership will make significant contributions to the field of education, to society and to the nation,” he said.
Professor Yang said, “Education should play a fundamental and pioneering role in the process of China's modernisation. It should actively contribute to “New Quality Productivity” innovation. To grasp the opportunities and meet the challenges brought about by new technologies such as artificial intelligence, institutions require stronger cooperation with one another.”
The EdUHK representatives at the ceremony were Mr Armen Lau Kit-man, Adviser to the President (Quality Assurance and Risk Management), Mr Donny Siu Koon-ming, Director of Global Affairs, and Ms Helen Gai Hui Xia, Director of Communications and Engagement.
Professor Shi Zhongying, Dean of the Tsinghua University Institute of Education, Ms Liu Huiqin, Party Secretary, Vice Deans Zhang Yu , Li Fengliang and Zhao Lin, and Deputy Party Secretary Qiao Weifeng were also present at the ceremony.
