The Academy for Applied Policy Studies and Education Futures (AAPSEF) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) hosted its Orientation Day for the 2026/27 academic year on 25 August at the Tai Po campus. The event welcomed the new cohort of students into the EdUHK community as they embark on a new chapter of advanced academic pursuits and professional development.
About 1,000 new students participated in the Orientation Day either in person or online. Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, Director of AAPSEF, together with the Academy’s Executive Co-Directors, Associate Co-Directors, Assistant Co-Directors, Programme Leaders, Associate Programme Leaders, teaching staff, and alumni, attended the event to share their insights and engage in meaningful interactions with the new students.
Professor Lee extended a warm welcome to all new students. He highlighted that the Academy has continuously expanded academic boundaries since its establishment in 2023. Facing rapid global technological innovation and structural industrial transformations, the Academy has launched a series of forward-looking master's programmes for the 2026/27 academic year that blend academic depth with market relevance, aiming to fully equip students with core competitiveness:
• Executive Master of Public Administration and Leadership
• Master of Arts in Emerging Technology for Future Workforce
• Master of Arts in Global Higher Education
• Master of Laws in Digital Governance
• Master of Laws in National Security Law
• Master of Occupational Therapy
• Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence for Executive Professionals
• Master of Science in Environmental, Social and Governance for Sustainable Development
Looking ahead to the 2027/28 academic year, the Academy will fully integrate diverse and cutting-edge fields into its focus, including the low-altitude economy and management, computational linguistics, cybersecurity, women's studies, beauty and lifestyle (organisational operations and management) as well as elderly service management and social governance, thereby establishing a shared think-tank resource hub for both faculty and students.
Professor Lee emphasised, “Interdisciplinary learning and a diverse global perspective are the core competencies and qualities we want our students to acquire and master through our programmes. Concurrently, we look forward to our students maintaining close bonds with their alma mater, and working hand-in-hand with us to strengthen and expand our alumni network upon graduation.”
In addition to attending the event to support their juniors, alumni of the Executive Master of Public Administration and Leadership [EMPAL] generously established a scholarship for the programme. This marks the second consecutive year that alumni have spontaneously initiated a scholarship—a benevolent act that not only gives back to the alma mater but also profoundly embodies the Academy's fine tradition of "passing the torch."
To facilitate a seamless transition into campus life, representatives from the Student Affairs Office (SAO), the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC), and the Library were invited to provide comprehensive briefings on academic resources and services, building a solid foundation for the students' learning journeys. Dedicated programme-specific orientation sessions followed, where faculty members detailed curriculum structures and offered students opportunities to connect and network with one another.
